Snazzy new running shoes! |
I got some snazzy new running shoes at the weekend from Advanced Performance in Cambridge. They recommend when you buy running shoes for long distance running that you have a gait analysis in order to make sure you find the right shoe for the way you run, so that is exactly what I did. I was asked to run on a treadmill in various different pairs of shoes whilst I had a video gait analysis. It seems like a bit of a faff but if your feet are not supported properly then your body will not absorb shock efficiently which can cause all sorts of problems.
Fact: up to four times your body weight goes through your feet when you run!
I ended up with a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14. They were £90 but that included a free 1-2-1 gait analysis and fitting which I think is pretty darn good value. Another thing I never knew about running shoes is that you are supposed to buy shoes a size bigger as your feet spread when you run, I am usually a size 7 but these shoes came up as a size 8.5!
It is hugely important if you are planning to start running on a regular basis that you buy a decent pair of shoes that are suitable for the way you run. It may seem expensive but it is worth it so you don't have to have your knees and hips replaced…
